Webb City Cardinals

Webb City football Coach John Roderique enters his 23rd season with his alma mater. Roderique has guided the Cardinals to a 286-26 record since taking the helm in 1997. Roderiques' 92% career winning percentage makes him the winningest coach in Missouri high school football history by percentage. Roderique has been named Coach of the Year by his peers in the Missouri Football Coaches Association in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012,  2013, 2014, & 2017.

 

Roderique has guided the Cardinals to the MSHSAA playoffs 21 of his 23 season as Head Coach, including the last 19 seasons in a row (2000-2019). The Cardinals have advanced to the state semi-finals 18 times including 8 in a row from 2008-2015.

 

Roderique's Cardinals have reached the Show-Me-Bowl 14 times (1997, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018), winning 11 Missouri Class 4 State Championships (97, 00, 01, 06, 08, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17).

 

Coach Roderique was enshrined into the Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Joplin Area Sports Authority Hall Fame in 2016. Roderique was named the 2016 Pete Adkins- Power of Influence Award winner. In 2019 Roderique was named to the list of the 50 greatest high school football coaches of all time by MaxPreps.com

 

Bill Utz   

Platte County Pirates

Coach Bill Utz is in 13th season as head coach at Platte County High School. Coach Utz has earned a 96 - 47 as taking over as head football coach in 2008. 

The Pirates have won 10 or more games the last three seasons. Utz has guided the Pirates to district championships this season and in 2017. The 2017 team advanced to their first semifinal game in class 4.

Highlights:

The Cardinals held just a 7-0 halftime lead and while Webb City never trailed in the game the Pirates never stopped fighting.

A stiff northern wind did little to slow down the Platte County spread passing attack. The Pirates completed 19 of 38 passes for 319 yards. The Cardinals did not have a stellar afternoon in the offensive stat book but grinded out 271 rushing yards on a stout Platte County defense.  

 

The Series:

The 2017 semifinal meeting was the only meeting between theses two programs all time. Webb City won the one and only meeting 21-18.
